Home Science means the art of managing your resources efficiently and the science of achieving a healthy and happy home as well as successful career. It is the education for "better living" and the core of this education is the family ecosystem. It also deals with reciprocal relations between the family and its natural and man-made environments. Home science integrates the application of various sciences and humanities to improve human environment, family nutrition, management of resources and child development.
It is offered as a bachelor degree of 3 years. Both BA and B Sc in Home science is available. Apart from the core subjects Development Communication & Extension, Fabric & Apparel Science, Food & Nutrition, Human Development and Resource Management, one would study Entrepreneurship, Family Life education, microbiology, personality development, Food preservation, Fashion Designing etc. After the UG course one can go for PG in Home science and opt for specialization or can opt for other PG courses.
OBJECTIVES
(i) To promote the welfare of the family through sound home-making education.
(ii) To raise the standards of the profession of Home Science.
AIMS
(i) Encouraging the establishment of Home making education in Schools, Training Colleges, Universities and Out of School programmes.
(ii) Making available reports, pamphlets and other publication related to Home Science.
(iii) Encouraging and aiding research and investigation in the various fields of Home Science such as: Housing, Home Management, Child Development, Family Relationships, Textiles and Clothing, Handicrafts and Foods and Nutrition.
(iv) Standardize and co-coordinating the courses in different institutions.
